J. August Richards, born August 28, 1973 in Washington, D.C., USA, is the actor who plays Mike Peterson on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He is a recurring cast member in the first season. He has previously worked with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show runner Joss Whedon on the series Angel, where he starred as Charles Gunn. He has been active onscreen since 1988 and has also starred in the series Conviction and Raising The Bar. He has had guest roles in the series Warehouse 13, Sliders, The Mentalist, Arrow, Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing and Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce. He has appeared in the films Good Burger (1997), The Temptations (1998) and Why Do Fools Fall In Love (1998).

Early life Edit

Richards is of Afro-Panamanian descent. He grew up in Bladensburg, Maryland. Richards attended the Visual and Performing Arts program at Suitland High School in Suitland, Maryland and graduated in 1991. He attended the USC School of Dramatic Arts on a scholarship.
